2011
Le Mans Series ~ Round 1, Paul Ricard
Last
year the Le Mans Series kicked
off with an eight-hour race at the Paul
Ricard circuit at Le Castellet, in southern
France. The remarkable High Tech Test
Track (HTTT) again hosted
the opening round in 2011, and just as
the team did twelve months previously,
RML AD Group revealed a new racecar.
In 2010 it was the HPD-powered Lola
coupé, while this year it was
not only the engine that bore the Honda
name, but the car itself. Over the winter
the whole package changed, and the familiar
red-white and blue scheme now graces a
Wirth Research designed HPD ARX-01 chassis.
As current holders of the Le Mans Series
LMP2 team and drivers' titles there is
much for the three-driver squad of Mike
Newton, Thomas Erdos and Ben Collins to
race for in 2011, and this first six-hour
event of the new season revealed just how
difficult that task is going to be.
